SIX STAR SUCCESSES & TESTIMONIALS
Our fourth family came to the US in 2002 from Afghanistan. The family included the father, mother, two girls and 5 boys. They had been in
Uzbekistan since leaving Afghanistan when the Taliban came to power. They spoke Farsi and Russian, but no English. The children had not
been able to attend school in six years.
Six Star volunteers tutored the children 4 days a week for the full two years the family lived in the Blue Ridge house.
The oldest in the family worked and saved money to buy a new home in Snellville. The two oldest boys graduated from
high school and are attending Perimeter College. The other children are honor students in school.
The parents have been unrelenting in working to get the oldest son and his family to the US from Afghanistan.
This family finally made it to this country and are living and working in Atlanta.
Recently the father told a board member that Six Star would always be a part of 'his story' and said "God and Six Star held me up!".
I have always gotten so much more from my time with our families than I have given. The relationships developed will last a
lifetime. -- Board Member
I look at my experiences in working with the refugee families as having an opportunity to build one little bridge to another country.
I will never be an ambassador, never visit these countries personally, but through my efforts to help the families it is my hope
that they will relay to their families back home that there are Americans who care. I also find that I am the one who is the richer
for these experiences - I have learned so much about their lives and culture and it has made me truly appreciate the privileges we
take for granted in this country. And I have learned that in the end, despite our many differences, we are all human beings who
are seeking the same things in life - a safe, loving and happy life for our children and ourselves. --Health Coordinator
I have known for many years that we in the USA have a lot to be thankful for. Since I was small I have seen pictures of how
people live in other countries. I know that a lot of people in the world live each day in hunger and have tried to contribute
as much as I can to help the less fortunate. It wasn't until I joined the Six Star Refugee Partnership board and became
involved in helping families who want to make better lives for themselves that I realize what a great ministry this
organization is and how grateful I am to be a part of this group. After having met several families and hearing the stories
about how they have had to live makes me pray every day and thank God for what I have. I enjoy very much in getting a house
ready for a new family. It is amazing how all the donated furniture comes together to make a beautiful home for these families
who have had to leave all their possessions behind. I urge everyone to get involved and meet these families. It will warm
your hearts. --Volunteer Tutor
